Heavy-Gauge Crane Runway Fabrication

Precision arc welding and load verification for a 50-ton overhead crane system

Challenge & Approach

The client required a robust crane runway system capable of supporting a 50-ton overhead crane under continuous dynamic loading. The primary challenge was achieving consistent weld integrity across heavy-gauge steel sections while maintaining strict dimensional tolerances. Our approach combined advanced arc welding techniques with a dual verification protocol: destructive testing on sample joints and phased-array ultrasonic testing on all production welds. This ensured every load-bearing cross-section met the specified yield strength and fatigue resistance criteria.

Results & Validation

All 24 runway beams passed both destructive and non-destructive testing with zero rejections. The final assembly demonstrated a 15% safety margin above the required load capacity, verified by strain gauge analysis under full static and dynamic load conditions. The project was completed two weeks ahead of schedule, and the crane system has been operating without any structural issues for over 18 months.

Our Process

From Inquiry to Precision Delivery

1

Initial Consultation & Load Analysis

We review your project specifications, load requirements, and site conditions to define the scope for heavy-gauge fabrication.

2

Engineering & Weld Procedure Specification

Our team develops detailed weld maps and procedure qualification records (PQR) for arc welding on critical crane runway components.

3

Precision Metal Fabrication

Using advanced CNC cutting and forming, we produce large-span structural steel sections with tight tolerances for overhead crane systems.

4

Destructive & Non-Destructive Testing

We perform ultrasonic, radiographic, and tensile tests to verify cross-sectional capacity and weld integrity under dynamic loads.

5

Final Assembly & Stress Verification

Components are trial-assembled and load-tested to confirm optimal stress distribution and structural resilience before shipment.
